Electricity is made from Trashes

Today, I was reading a bulletin magazine from Indosat. There was something interesting that I would like to share in this blog. I would just make it as a quick summary about this.

We do know that so far we just recycling trashes in limitation only into compost or natural fertilizer and some can be recycling or being used as material art-crafts.

Lately, Microbiology - Bio Tech Institute of Minnesota University under Daniel Bond And Jeffrey Gralnick as leaders of researh team for this scheme; found that bacterial organism are refered to Shewanella can be able to produce electricity and can be able to improve the energy productivity ability by collaborating with riboflavin ( in lay language is B-2 vitamin ). These Shewanella can be found in water and the ground soil. This bacteria can be able to to change lactid acid into electricity mass.

They also explained that the experts knew about this bacteria Shewanella for years now due its capability in producing electricity; but only lately the scientists can be able understand how this bacteria can be able to do it by collaborating with riboflavin.In the research showed that growing on the electrodes naturally and be able to produce riboflavin.
Riboflavin able to carry electrons from living cells to electrodes, rates of electricity production could be increased up to 370 % once the riboflavin accumulated. Adding microbial fuel cells bu using similar type bacteria can generate electricity for cleaning the waste water. Bacteria could help to lower the costs of a waste-water management plant.

However, for powering and couraging the needs of any households and bussiness, It is necessary finding more advanced bio-tech scientific invention and fuel-cell materials which should be cheaper.

To Understand the way of this Bacterias can be able to produce electricity?

Naturally, the bacteria such as shewanella needs to and dissolve metals such as iron. With the ability to direct the electrons, making this bacteria having ability to change the chemistry and the availability itself. Bacteria already exist since millions years ago to change the chemistry in our environment. The ability to make iron into a soluble substances is a key in metal-cyle process environment and as an important role-play in earth life being. This process can be use reversed to avoid the metal exposed to corrosion, specially for sea-ships' metals.

Power Plant Waste Management in Bandung, Indonesia

Bandung,( West Java ) Indonesia ; ensure to build the power plant waste management in the area in sooner time-lines. The government collaborates with Bandung Institue of Technology start intensified socializing this work scheme to society by using and utilizing the city's trashes. The plan of this power plant has been through a feasibility study including the analysis of environmental impacts. The considerations that underlie the constructing this power plant is to destroy the trashes itself due the increasing numbers of trashes is getting more and more every time and the space for accomodating the trashes is getting limited due the people rising every time. And the electricity produced will be sold to the state. In the future, the management will charge the amount of garbage from the society. The costs of processing the trashes into electricity-ready to use depending on the technology used. However, the management expects the costs of processing this power plant by using trashes would be cheaper than other countries.

In addtion to this article, and to support why not us starting making classifications to our own garbages at home. Split them into categories;
1. Cans
2. Glass, Plastics Bottles,
3. Papers
4. Cooking trashes / Household ( put inside the big garbage bin usually at front of our house to throw and being picked-up by the junk man );
For cans, glass, plastic bottles or papers ( specially thick card-board papers ) ; at my home we start doing this and give them separately to different junkman ( tukang loak - Indonesian red) since they are the one who will split it and destroy it or sell it to recycling used-vendors.
For books as manual books for schools, give them to the public libraries or some needy people surround us who needs those books. If you still have blank papers, use them back and front, then burn it down and mix it to make compost.

Note :
Thank you for Indosat and Sorry if  my translate not so good.
